"K-Startup Union Mobile Develops Cambodia's National Messenger 'AngkorChat', Attracting Attention"

"K-Startup Union Mobile Develops Cambodia's National Messenger 'AngkorChat', Attracting Attention"

After signing an MOU last May... Official launch planned for early next year.

Celebrating 25 years of diplomatic relations with South Korea this year, the Cambodian government is drawing attention as it gears up to launch the 'AngkorChat', a Cambodian national messenger developed in partnership with K-startup Union Mobile (CEO Lee Hee-Seung). Cambodia, one of the most active countries in Southeast Asia in terms of diplomatic and economic exchanges with South Korea, is recently accelerating its 'digital transformation' from traditional industries like garment manufacturing to IT services and other fourth-industrial-era sectors. Union Mobile Inc. signed an MOU with the Cambodian government last May concerning the development and operation of the messenger service and is currently in its final review before its grand opening early next year. Grounded in enhanced secure bidirectional information-sharing communication technology, Union Mobile is developing the Cambodian national messenger 'AngkorChat' and its related platforms, aiming for a release and operation early next year. To ensure successful service in Cambodia, it's known that Union Mobile's Korean headquarters and its local subsidiary are in the process of establishing a messenger service entity in consultation with the Cambodian government. The MOU signing ceremony last May was attended by Union Mobile CEO Lee Hee-Seung and other key executives, and over 50 government officials, including Cambodia's Deputy Minister of Information and Communication H.E Sothea. Deputy Minister H.E Sothea of Cambodia expressed, "We are delighted to co-develop Cambodia's national messenger with a Korean startup leading global messenger services in IT-challenged Cambodia," and anticipates "an expansion into various platform businesses based on this." Union Mobile CEO Lee Hee-Seung remarked, "We're not just developing Cambodia's national messenger; through this project, we hope for meaningful development between South Korea and Cambodia." Following the launch of 'AngkorChat', the Cambodian government plans to undertake various IT ventures with Union Mobile, and Union Mobile is also reported to be planning diversified platform businesses in Cambodia.
