Seoul Media Institute of Technology (Dean Kim Gwang-su, hereafter SMIT) announced on September 13th that they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with global startup Union Mobile (CEO Lee Hee-seung) regarding the joint development of educational programs and nurturing talent in conjunction with the University of Cambodia. 'AngkorChat' is an integrated mobile platform based on messaging that enhances entertainment, mobile lifestyle convenience, and productivity. Union Mobile is an ICT specialist company that primarily offers NI (Network Integration) and IT consulting services based on technologies such as cloud, UC (Unified Communications), virtualization, and security. In May 2022, they signed an MOU with the Cambodian government, established a joint venture in June 2023, and, along with that, they are gearing up for the grand opening of 'AngkorChat' in September 2023, following the start of Google services in May 2023. Through this collaboration, Union Mobile plans to take steps towards advancing Cambodia's educational environment, starting by providing a video education system to the University of Cambodia, located in Phnom Penh. Dean Kim Gwang-su of Seoul Media Institute of Technology stated, "SMIT, as a focal graduate school related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, has been continuously researching this field for already 15 years." He added, "Through this joint collaboration between the two institutions, we hope to share the unique achievements of our university with many citizens of Cambodia." Meanwhile, SMIT, with campuses in Magok and SangamDMC, is a pioneering graduate school specialized in media/IT convergence, leading in nurturing talent for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
