Korea University of Technology and Education Awards Outstanding Students and Organizations in Long- and Short-term Field Training

Student Shin Jang-kyun Wins Top IPP Award, Union Mobile Inc. Among Four Outstanding Institutions

The IPP Center of Korea University of Technology and Education (KoreaTECH), led by President Yoo Kil-Sang and Director Hong Joo-Pyo , announced on the 1st that they held the "2023 Second Half Outstanding Field Training Students and Organizations Award Ceremony" at the university's Integrated Student Support Center Seminar Room on the 30th last month, attended by about 200 students. This was followed by an explanatory meeting for the 2024 second semester IPP (long-term field training) and summer short-term field training for students. During the ceremony, Shin Jang-kyun, a student from the Department of Electrical, Electronics, and Communications Engineering who completed a six-month IPP from June to December last year at DucoGen Co., Ltd. won the top award. Additionally, Kim Jun-hee and 12 other students from the Department of Industrial Management, who participated in the IPP at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Evaluation and Planning, received excellence awards. Furthermore, Kim Hyung-ju, a student from the Department of Mechanical Engineering who undertook an eight-week short-term training at Humin Robotics Co., Ltd. received the top award. Lim Ji-won, a student from the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at U&S Energy Ltd. and three others received excellence and encouragement awards. Shin Jang-kyun expressed, "Through the IPP, I was able to grasp the business processes and improve my time management skills, along with enhancing my problem-solving abilities. I strive to continuously work towards becoming a better professional using the experiences and knowledge gained through IPP." The outstanding field training institutions selected were Posco E&C, TFE Co., Ltd. , Union Mobile Inc. , and Youngil Automation Co., Ltd. which received plaques of appreciation. These companies have been significantly contributing to industry-academia cooperation by actively participating in IPP and short-term training programs and hiring trainees. Lee Beom-hee, director at Union Mobile, remarked, "The students participating in IPP were highly regarded for their character and skills in the operational departments, and those hired after training have shown higher job satisfaction than other new employees, aiding in securing excellent talents." President Yoo Kil-Sang thanked all the outstanding training institutions for their continuous support in nurturing and hiring KoreaTECH students, expressing hope for strengthening the win-win relationship through various industry-academia collaboration programs. Following the awards, the IPP Center also held an explanatory meeting for the second semester IPP and the summer short-term field training. The second session of the meeting, held at 7 PM, also saw significant participation from around 200 students. Since 2012, KoreaTECH has been operating the Industry Professional Practice (IPP), a Korean-style co-op (cooperative education) that links students with enterprises for long-term field training. Annually, more than 400 juniors and seniors participate in IPP, enhancing their practical skills and employment capabilities related to their majors. The participation rate of students in long-term field training at KoreaTECH is the highest among universities in Korea.
